Over the past several weeks, we’ve gathered at Carroll Cup Coffee House on Tuesdays at 9 AM for Bible study. We recently finished the book of 1 John, where one theme stands above the rest: God does not want His people to live in uncertainty about their relationship with Him.

John writes so believers can have real assurance—not based on feelings or empty claims, but on a life rooted in Christ. He gives several “tests” to examine our faith, not to discourage us, but to help us rest confidently in Him:

John’s goal is not fear, but assurance: “that you may know that you have eternal life.” These tests help confirm genuine faith, expose false assurance, and draw us back to Christ.

True assurance isn’t found in perfection, but in a life being shaped by Him. May we live not in doubt, but in the steady confidence that comes from knowing Jesus.

I encourage you, if your schedule allows for it, to join us each week as we dive into Scripture to strengthen and encourage us on the journey of life.

What a wonderful time we shared this past Easter weekend! A few of us gathered for the Community Good Friday Service, which left us reflecting deeply on the sacrifice our Lord made so many years ago. We departed in quiet anticipation, waiting for the joy of Resurrection morning.

On Saturday, some of us had the opportunity to serve at an information booth during the Community Egg Hunt. It was a blessing to meet so many new faces, and we were delighted to add several individuals to our email distribution list. To those of you receiving this newsletter for the first time—WELCOME! If you do not currently have a church home, we would be honored for you to visit Wildermuth Church and experience our community.

We did have to wrap up quickly as the egg hunt began, so I could return to the church to prepare for a wedding. I had to chuckle some as the groom chose that date so he could always remember it falls around Easter, and because of the simplicity of remembering the date “4–4.”

Finally, many of you joined us on Sunday for our SONrise Service, Breakfast Fellowship, and Resurrection Service. Together, we explored the history and tradition of the Red Resurrection Egg and joyfully welcomed six new members into our church family. It was a full and meaningful weekend, and I must admit, I am just now catching up on a bit of rest and relaxation.

While our calendar will ease up slightly in the coming weeks, our Kingdom work continues. We are already preparing for our next outreach event—a concert on Saturday, April 25th, featuring Don and Sylvia Lemley. Please take a moment to review the flyer at the end of this newsletter and share it with others.

As we move beyond our Lenten journey, having walked through Holy Week and celebrated the risen Christ, our Sunday sermons will now transition into a new short series titled “What I Really Need Is…”. We will begin by exploring Spiritual Growth and considering what we need from God to live active and fruitful lives for His Kingdom.

Welcome to the midway point of Holy Week! Can’t you almost hear the shouts of “Hosanna!” echoing through the streets? One of the unique perspectives we have, looking back on history, is knowing how quickly those cries of praise turned into shouts of “Crucify Him!” as Good Friday approached.

As we move closer to that solemn day, I invite you to join us for our Community Good Friday Service on Friday, April 3rd at 7:00 PM at Trinity UCC (105 N. High St., Baltimore). This will be a meaningful and reflective evening centered on the death, burial, and sacrificial love of our Lord and Savior. It is also a special opportunity to gather alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ from across denominations as we remember what Jesus endured for us.

Then on Saturday, April 4th, you’re invited to join us at Johnson Park in Baltimore for the community Easter Egg Hunt, “Eggstravaganza.” Setup will begin around 9:30 AM, with the event opening at 11:00 AM and the egg hunt starting at noon. If the weather holds, we expect a wonderful turnout of families from the community. This is a great opportunity not only to introduce others to Wildermuth, but more importantly, to meet people, build relationships, and perhaps even connect with the “ONE” God has placed on your heart. And if past years are any indication—don’t blink! Those eggs will be gone in no time!

Please also note that on Saturday afternoon, Wildermuth will host a wedding for a couple who recently visited during one of our concerts. They fell in love with our church and asked to hold their ceremony here. I’m honored to be officiating this special occasion.

Our weekend continues with celebration on Sunday morning at 7:30 AM for our SONrise Service. Yes, the sun will rise—but we gather to celebrate the risen SON! Following the service, we’ll enjoy a time of fellowship and breakfast together, thanks to your generous donations. Then we’ll come back together at 10:00 AM for our regular worship service, where we will celebrate new members joining our church and share in Communion.

It will be a full and meaningful weekend. I encourage you to participate in as many of these opportunities as you can as we journey together from the cross to the empty tomb.

It was mentioned this past Sunday during announcements that we have a lot happening right now as a church. That’s true—and at times, it can feel overwhelming. With already full schedules, it’s easy to think there’s simply too much to do.

As I continue to challenge each of us to reach our “One”—to build relationships and ultimately disciple others—remember that this calling is ongoing. There is always another “One” whom God may be placing on our hearts.

Sometimes that “One” isn’t already within our natural circle of influence. Stated another way, we may not encounter them in our normal - everyday routines. That’s why, in addition to concerts, small groups, and other gatherings, we are intentionally creating opportunities to connect with people in our community. One way we’re doing this is by setting up a church booth at local events, complete with giveaways and materials to help us engage with others.

Our first opportunity will be Saturday, April 4th at Johnson Park in Baltimore for the Community Easter Egg Hunt, “Eggstravaganza.” Setup will begin around 9:30 a.m., with the event opening at 11:00 a.m. The egg hunt starts at noon—and if past years are any indication, it will be over quickly… those kids find eggs fast! Please feel free to join me at this event as we reach out to possibly thousands of people in our area. Yes, in past years, when the weather is good, thousands of people show up for this event.

Another important event coming up is the Community Good Friday Service. While I’ve mentioned it only briefly before, I do want to encourage everyone to make plans to attend. All are welcome to join us on Friday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity UCC (105 N. High St., Baltimore) for a meaningful and reflective evening centered on the death-burial-sacrifice of our Lord and Savior.

I want to take a moment to thank so many of you. Over the past several weeks I have been challenging each of us to identify our “ONE”—the person God has placed on our hearts to intentionally befriend and build a relationship with, with the ultimate goal of introducing them to who should be our very best friend, Jesus Christ.

Many of you have shared with me about your ONE, and some of you even have multiple people you are praying for and investing in. Let me encourage you to stay the course. For some people it may take months, if not years, to develop the kind of relationship where a spiritual conversation or invitation to follow Christ becomes natural. Many of us would love to see things happen overnight—or even within minutes—but that is rarely how it works. As Scripture reminds us in Epistle to the Hebrews 12:1–3, we are running a marathon, not sprinting toward a finish line.

As a church family, we are also creating many opportunities to help along this journey. Events such as concerts, the Ice Cream Social, and our participation in community activities like Carroll Community Days and the Hank Kabel Sarcoma 5K Run/Walk give us natural ways to connect with people. Soon we will also be launching a Grief Support Group. These events can serve as welcoming first steps that help people feel comfortable connecting with our church before taking the larger step of attending a worship service.

Of course, our deepest desire is for people to become part of God’s Kingdom, and we would love for that journey to include becoming part of the Wildermuth Memorial Church family. But we must remember not to get the cart before the horse. Relationships come first. Please take a look at the flyers at the end of each newsletter issue for upcoming events. As those dates approach, I encourage you to join me at these gatherings for as much or as little time as your schedule allows. You never know when a simple conversation might become the beginning of someone’s journey toward Christ.

Through the years, I’ve had people come up to me after a service and say things like, “Pastor, you really stepped on my toes this morning,” or “Pastor, that sermon felt like it was written just for me.” I can honestly say that I have never intentionally aimed a message at any one person. My prayer each week is simply that God would guide me to the message He wants shared and that He would use it in the hearts of those who hear it.

This past Sunday, however, I had to pause for a moment and chuckle. The title of the message was “Distractions.” Whether it was the time change, not quite enough coffee, or something else entirely, it seemed like everything possible was trying to distract me throughout the service. In the middle of it all, I realized that God was allowing me to experience the very thing the message was about. My mind and thoughts seemed to be pulled in every direction except toward worship—ironic, considering the whole point of the message was learning to set distractions aside and focus on God.

I want to thank each of you who joined us in person or online. Even in those moments, God reminded me of an important truth: there is victory in Jesus! We simply need to persevere and continue walking by faith. As the special music reminded us Sunday morning, “I’d rather have Jesus than anything this world affords.”

Friends, exciting times lie ahead. We have several opportunities coming up to reach out to our community. In addition to the concerts and times of fellowship we enjoy at the church, we are making plans to participate in local community festivals and events. More details will be coming soon, so be sure to watch future editions of the newsletter as those dates approach.

As we move forward together, let’s set aside the distractions, keep our focus on God, desire Him first, love our neighbors, and continue reaching “The One.”

We had a wonderful concert this past Saturday with Kameron Waits. He is truly a gifted singer with a heart for sharing the Gospel through song. Thank you to everyone who joined us in person—it was a meaningful and uplifting evening of worship.

For those who were unable to attend and attempted to watch online, I want to offer a sincere apology. Unfortunately, we were unable to get Facebook to cooperate, and much of the livestream was blocked. That’s one of the ongoing frustrations of technology. Thankfully, a few songs were able to be salvaged and reposted. While we don’t have full control over what social media will or won’t allow, it does serve as a reminder of the value of being present in the room whenever possible. There is simply no substitute for gathering together in person.

On another note, as I’ve mentioned before, I am part of a Ministerial Association serving Baltimore, Thurston, and Carroll. This association hosts several community worship services throughout the year. The next of these will be a Good Friday Service. The leadership at Wildermuth Memorial Church has decided that this year we will join in that community service rather than hosting our own.

Please make plans now to join us on Friday, April 3rd, at 7:00 PM, at Trinity UCC, located at 105 North High Street in Baltimore. This service is a wonderful opportunity to worship alongside believers from across our community, and you will also experience ministers from several local churches leading different parts of the service together. What is Lent—and why does it matter?

Lent is the 40-day season (not counting Sundays) leading up to Easter. It mirrors the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness and recalls the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert. More than a stretch of days on the calendar, Lent is an invitation: a sacred time to slow down, reflect, repent, and prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter and the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

While Lent is most often associated with Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican traditions, many Protestant churches—including ours—have found it to be a meaningful season of spiritual renewal. Lent helps us examine our lives, turn again toward God, and make space for the Spirit to form us more fully into Christlikeness.

I also want to remind you about our upcoming New Members Class , which you’ll see more details about later in this newsletter. This class is open to anyone—whether you’re considering membership or simply want to learn more about Wildermuth Church. Together we’ll explore our rich heritage, our theology and doctrine, and how our church is structured.

And then comes the challenge.

Each of us has THE ONE—that person God has placed on our heart. During this Lenten season, I invite you to intentionally invest in that relationship. Pray for them. Walk with them. Perhaps, as God works, that relationship will grow to the point where they join you for a New Members Class. Better yet, perhaps God is stirring something deeper—leading you, or your ONE, toward baptism.

With that hope in mind, I am making arrangements for a Baptism Service on Easter morning. If you—or someone you know—are feeling led to be baptized, please reach out and let me know. I would be honored to walk with you in that step of faith.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

Greetings,

As I sat down to write this edition of our newsletter, I found myself wrestling with what to share. Should I revisit some of the important reminders we often talk about—like linking your Kroger Rewards Card to Wildermuth Memorial Church so a portion of your purchases supports our Missions Fund? Or perhaps highlight that this Friday we once again have the opportunity to serve by helping set up the local Food Pantry? Maybe I should encourage participation in a New Members Class and invite those who are interested to take the next step toward membership here.

But then I realized that all of these opportunities—and more—are already shared throughout this newsletter each week. I also considered writing about Lent: what it is, why we observe it, and what it means for our faith. Much of that conversation has already taken place in our new Tuesday Bible Study at Carroll Cup Coffee House. Still, a couple of reflections from that time together have stayed with me.

First, we talked about how the Apostle John shared what he had seen, heard, and learned—and we were challenged to ask ourselves if we are doing the same. Are we allowing excuses to keep us from sharing the gospel with others? Or do we love people enough to help them honestly confront their condition—separated from God and bound by sin? Individually and collectively, what are we doing to help others find life and hope in Christ?

The second challenge centered on the phrase “practice the truth.” In 1 John 1:6 we read: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

Friends, rather than repeating announcements or urging participation in specific activities, I want to invite us—especially during this Lenten season—to reflect on our personal habits and our daily walk with Christ. Are we truly practicing the truth in our lives?

If you’d like to explore this more deeply, I invite you to join us on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. at Carroll Cup Coffee House. I believe God has something meaningful to say to each of us as we seek to follow Him more faithfully.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

This past Sunday, I shared a message that came not only from my heart, but one I believe reflects the heart of our church—and more importantly, the heart of God. If you missed it, I encourage you to watch it on Facebook or through our website. The message, The One, is truly rooted in God’s heart for His people.

As I shared during the message, this is not about numbers, attendance, appearances, or bragging rights. It is about growing God’s Kingdom and living out the mission of Wildermuth Memorial Church—and really, the mission of every Christian. We are called to be teaching, preaching, and discipling through relationships and love (Matthew 28:19). That is our mission, and the vision we were challenged with on Sunday—reaching “The One”—is how we live it out.

I was deeply encouraged by the response during the message—the nodding heads, the “yeses” and “amens,” and the engagement from those watching online or reaching out afterward. It was uplifting to see so many willing, at least in that moment, to accept the challenge. The true test now is whether we put action behind that commitment.

So here is the challenge: identify your “One.” Begin praying and ask God to reveal who He is calling you to reach. Pray for them. Pray about how to reach them. Look for opportunities to spend time together, build a relationship, and share life. Then, when God opens the door, invite them—to a fellowship event, to church. Move from the initial “Hello, my name is…” – to “Would you like to meet this dear friend of mine, Jesus?”

If you are already walking this journey with someone, this Sunday provides a wonderful opportunity to invite them as John Cooper joins us to portray President Abraham Lincoln and share Lincoln’s faith journey.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

I just want to give a shoutout to God! This past weekend, I had no idea why He was leading me to sing a special on Sunday morning which was made famous by a Southern Gospel Group known as The Nelons. Yet, a song entitled “The Sun’s Coming Up”, could not have been a better choice, at least for me that morning. The song starts in verse 1 with: “Once again, I faced Satan this morning and I battled him all the day long.” As those of you that joined us Sunday for in-person worship knows, our furnace for the Sanctuary was not working properly and when I arrived at church, it was only 35 degrees inside the church! Thankfully Randy and Marvin were able to get things figured out and we were in the 50’s to 60’s during our service time.

We all have had “things” happen to us or around us during these past several days, the weather has been rough to deal with. I am not going to lament or dwell on the many “battles” I have had, but I will say the last thing I wanted to be doing on Sunday morning was coming up with contingency plans on where and how to have our Worship time together. All I knew was, I did not want the enemy to win and we need to cancel church once again.

That same verse of the song ends with: “and at sundown, I’ll sing victory’s song!” We may have had to wear our coats, it may have been chilly, there were even some frustrations about our situation, BUT GOD! By the end of the service, the sundown of our Worship time, we were up to our normal temperatures, we had had a great time of Worship, we got to meet some friends that were visiting us, and we still celebrated God’s victory by breaking bread together during the Lord’s Supper!

As the chorus of the song states: “This old place is gonna give way to glory!” The second verse even state “In a world filled with doubts and confusion…I’ll stand on a solid foundation and I’ll hold to an unchanging hand!” My prayer is that each of us, no matter what is going on around us, in spite of the doubts and confusion, each of us will stand on a solid foundation and hold on to that unchanging hand!

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

It has certainly been an unusual week. As the old Ohio saying goes, “If you don’t like the weather, wait an hour or so!” While our weather was challenging, we continue to pray for those in areas that experienced far more severe conditions—ice, power outages, and other hardships. At the same time, we give thanks to God with grateful hearts for His many blessings. To my knowledge, no one connected with Wildermuth was left without food, warmth, or shelter. Even more encouraging, several individuals we have been praying for are beginning to share testimonies of healing.

Yes, it was frustrating to alter our plans this past weekend—canceling both the Beat the Winter Blues concert with Kameron Waits and our in-person Worship Service. Yet when we pause and reflect, we can clearly see God’s blessings even in the disruption. No one was traveling in unsafe conditions or risking getting stranded or injured. Kameron graciously agreed to reschedule the concert for February 28, and thanks to available technology, we were still able to share the sermon on Facebook. By the end of this week, it will also be available on our church website. Truly, God is good all the time - (and I can just hear most of you now saying or thinking) – “and all the time God is Good!”.

This Sunday, we will conclude our Timeless Truths for Today series. It has been a meaningful journey as we revisited the Ten Commandments and rediscovered how relevant and life-giving they remain. God desires what is best for us, and when we follow His commands, we grow closer to living Christ-like lives than we ever could through our own efforts alone. I invite you to join us in person this Sunday (weather permitting) for fellowship and worship as we learn both what it means—and how surprisingly easy it can be—to covet, and how God calls us beyond it. We will also be sharing the Lord’s Supper together during our time together.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

I know that I am known for having some very corny Dad Jokes. Perhaps you have even heard me say that life is too short not to laugh once in a while. It is no secret that we do not have to look very far to find trouble, strife, even war-like areas in our world today. I strive to be optimistic rather than a pessimistic type of person.

That being said, I was recently reading an article which asked the question: What does it mean to be a faithful disciple of Jesus in times of war? This got me to pondering just what our response, our actions as Christians should be. Our world is certainly in uncertain times but through it all, we as representatives of Christ should have compassion through the Word of God! The weight of the world’s pain can feel crushing. Disasters, conflicts, and struggles surround us daily. In the middle of it all, God does not ask us to turn away but to walk in compassion. Throughout Scripture, we learn to see with open eyes, respond with love, and to practice mercy faithfully.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ, moving toward suffering rather than away from it. The question then becomes; how do we live this out when the needs around us feel so overwhelming? How do we have Compassion through the Word of God?

First, Notice – Ask God to open your eyes to someone’s need (Luke 10:25-37). The first “good” thing the Samaritan does in this parable of the Good Samaritan is to notice the need of someone who was on his path. He didn’t have to go out of his way, he just was used for good, i.e. - had compassion, for someone in his proximity.

Having Compassion then needs us to Move. To choose presence over avoidance. Others in the parable of the Good Samaritan “noticed” but avoided. Compassion should cause us to move and act. To care for the hurting. Like Jesus, we must be willing to step in - even when it’s uncomfortable.

Finally, Compassion needs to be put into Practice. Micah 6:8 tells us that Compassion is more than a single act; it is a posture of the heart. Compassion is not about fixing everything. It is about being faithful with what God has placed right in front of you. Compassion - Notice, Move, Practice – and trust God with each step!

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

I want to begin this week’s newsletter with a quick clarification. One of the announcements I shared this past Sunday was a week early. The Bloom-Carroll Food Bank will take place next week, so please plan to join us at Shalom UMC on Friday, January 23, at 6:30 PM to help with setup for this important outreach to our community.

I am also in the final stages of organizing a New Members Class for Wildermuth Memorial Church. If you are newer to Wildermuth and feel led to take the next step toward membership, this class is for you. We will explore the rich heritage of our church, what we teach, preach, and believe, and how Wildermuth functions as a body of believers. Participation in this class will allow you to become an official member, giving you the opportunity to take part in future elections and decision-making within the church.

If you have been attending Wildermuth for some time, this class can also serve as a helpful refresher and a wonderful opportunity to connect more deeply with others in our church family. It is also a great setting to ask questions and share insights that enrich the discussion for everyone involved.

If you are interested in attending the New Members Class, please reach out to me. I know schedules can be busy, and I would like to select a date and time that allows for the greatest participation possible. Possible options include Saturday morning or afternoon, Sunday before or after worship, Sunday evening, or another time during the week. Your input will be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Finally, I encourage you to take a moment each week to look at the flyers at the end of the newsletter highlighting upcoming events at Wildermuth. As we get closer to each event, additional details will be shared. These flyers are included so you can pass them along, invite others, and help spread the word. If you are on Facebook, please watch for posts advertising these events and consider sharing them on your page or in any groups you are part of.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

This past Sunday we continued our Pre-Advent sermon series, Timeless Truths for Today. As I mentioned during the message, last year we made it through the first five Commandments:

1. God First,

2. God Only,

3. Take My Name Seriously,

4. Work Six – Rest One, and

5. Honor Your Father and Mother.

As we resumed the series, we took a closer look at the commandment, “You Shall Not Murder.” This is never an easy topic to examine, as it touches on deeply sensitive areas such as murder, abortion, euthanasia, and suicide. Even more challenging is the call to look inward and honestly examine whether there is hatred in our own hearts. If you were unable to join us in person, I encourage you to watch the service on our Facebook page; it will also be uploaded to our website soon. As I shared on Sunday, these subjects can be difficult to hear and, for some, may stir painful memories. I am truly grateful for the kind and encouraging words from those of you who have walked through one or more of these difficult experiences and thanked me for addressing them. Please know that my commitment to you is this: I will continue to challenge all of us—myself included—to seek how God’s Holy Word applies to our daily lives. That is my prayer as we finish exploring these Timeless Truths over the coming weeks—that we allow God to reveal where change is needed and that we are transformed by Him. A new us in 2026!

Looking ahead to the new year, I have begun advertising our first concert of 2026, which is just a few weeks away. Since doing so, several artists and ministers have reached out, and our calendar is quickly filling—potentially with a concert nearly every month. These events provide a wonderful opportunity to invite others to Wildermuth and are often more readily accepted by those who may be hesitant to attend a worship service. So, as I challenge each of us to allow God to transform us, may I also challenge you to invite friends, family, and neighbors to these concerts. You never know how God may use an invitation to change a life.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

What an incredible week we’ve had! Last week’s Candlelight Service was truly beautiful, and it was made even more special because of each of you—your presence and participation brought it to life. I trust you enjoyed a blessed Christmas surrounded by loved ones. Lisa and I certainly did!

After Christmas, we took a last-minute trip to visit the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. While we’ve been there before, this was our first time experiencing their stunning Christmas light display. Sharing that moment with our oldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson made it extra meaningful.

Tonight, we’re excited to continue the joy of the season with fellowship at the Parsonage during our Open House. We’ll gather to watch OSU in the Cotton Bowl and maybe even play a little Euchre together!

In the midst of all these celebrations, we were reminded during Sunday mornings powerful message that GOD WANTS TO DO A NEW THING IN OUR LIVES.

That’s my personal challenge for 2026—and I’ll be inviting you to join me in that challenge! What new habit could help you draw closer to Jesus? Perhaps it is having a more consistent time in Scripture. Maybe it is finding and sticking to a focused daily devotional. Why it could even be joining a small group—or even leading one!

What is God saying to you? How does He want to do a new thing in your life? Let’s hold each other accountable and challeng each other so we can together discover, how we can reach our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth.

Before Advent, we began a journey through the Timeless Truths of the Ten Commandments, having covered the first five. This Sunday, we’ll review those and then dive into the sixth commandment. What better way to prepare our hearts, minds, and actions for God’s new work than by grounding ourselves in His eternal Word?

Let’s together, step into this new year ready for all that God wants to do in us and through us!

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

As this newsletter reaches you, we will be within 24 hours of one of the most sacred and joyful celebrations of our faith—the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My heart is also filled with eager anticipation as we prepare for our Candlelight Service this evening. I am deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming response of volunteers who have stepped forward to help make this service possible. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each and every one of you. Your willingness to serve is a true gift to our church family.

It’s hard to believe that we are already looking ahead to a new year—new beginnings, new resolutions, and new adventures. While January weather in Ohio can always be unpredictable, we are excited to announce a special concert on Saturday, January 24th at 6:00 PM, featuring Kameron Waits. Many of you will remember him from our Fifth Sunday Sing in November, and we are delighted to welcome him back for a full concert. More details will be shared in the coming weeks, but I encourage you to mark your calendars now and begin thinking about who you might invite to join you for what promises to be a wonderful evening. And yes—there will be food afterward!

As we think about the year ahead, I invite you to join me in prayer, asking God to show us how we can become even greater servants to our community. I often hear from people who say they “used to” attend church at Wildermuth, each with their own story and reason. At the same time, I am often surprised by how many people in our local area have never heard of Wildermuth at all. Let’s work together to change both of those realities. This may mean being more present at local events and festivals, or even hosting new opportunities right here. It will take effort from all of us—but we must remember why we do it. We are not doing this for ourselves, or for the pastor, or even for Wildermuth alone. We are doing this for God.

I once saw a shirt that read, “Let’s make heaven crowded.” That simple phrase has stayed with me. Will you join me in doing our part to make that happen in the year ahead?

We will need a minimum of 5 adult males and 5 adult women to commit to being the leadership teams in order to get these troops chartered.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

We are drawing ever closer to that beautiful day when we celebrate the birth of our Savior. If you haven’t already had a chance, I encourage you to visit our Facebook page or website and watch our Worship service from Sunday, December 14, 2025. For me, that service was reminiscent of the height of the COVID era—preaching to an empty sanctuary. As most of you know, due to the weather we had to cancel our in-person Worship and move to an online-only service. For those of you from other parts of the world who receive this newsletter, Fairfield County was under a snow emergency, making travel unsafe. Even so, my heart was filled with joy. I was thankful knowing that everyone was home—safe, warm, and comfortable. I was also deeply encouraged by how many of you commented during the live Facebook stream or reached out afterward with a call or text to express gratitude that we were still able to gather for Worship online. Your support and connection mean more than you know.

As a reminder, when Fairfield County is under a Level 2 or Level 3 Snow Emergency, we will cancel our in-person worship service. However, as we did this past Sunday, I will do my very best to continue offering an online service whenever possible. If you would like to receive text

notifications regarding weather-related changes or online services, please contact me and I will be happy to add you to our distribution list.

This week, we turn our Advent focus to Love, the theme of the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Do you know that God loves you? Join us this Sunday as we explore Scripture together and reflect on what God’s love truly means for our lives.

I’ve often said, “God loves you just the way you are, but He loves you too much to leave you just the way you are.” A now-retired pastor friend of mine used to end every service with these words: “Remember, God loves you, I love you, and there ain’t a thing you can ever do to change that!” He may have been a good ol’ country preacher, but that truth has stayed with me—and it’s a message we all need to hear again and again.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

Can you believe we are already approaching the third week of Advent? This week our focus turns to JOY . As we reflect on Christmases past, what memories bring you joy?

Call me old—or at least a bit old-fashioned—but I find far greater joy in remembering family gatherings, time spent with friends, and even some of those old workplace Christmas parties. Those shared moments bring me much more joy today than recalling the toy that once topped my wish list. While I do remember some of those gifts, the joy of possessing them has faded over time. In contrast, the joy found in meaningful experiences and relationships has only grown stronger.

Isn’t that just like our Heavenly Father, who created us for relationship? When I read God’s Word, I am continually reminded that we were made for connection. Connections thru relationships—first and foremost with Him, and also with one another. During this Advent season, we are invited to pause and reflect on the joy that is available to us regardless of our circumstances. That joy comes from knowing that God loves us so deeply that He sent His Son to be born in a humble manger, showing us the way into a restored and perfect relationship with our Creator.

As Advent continues, this joy leads us toward Christmas, when we not only celebrate Christ’s birth but also remember the sacrifice Jesus willingly accepted so that we might have full and unfettered access to God.

As a reminder, please prayerfully consider whether you would like to participate in our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on December 24 at 6:00 PM . Let me know of your willingness, and we will begin finalizing our plans soon.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

We had a wonderful start to the Advent Season as our guest, Kameron Waits, shared the gospel message through song. I also shared a short message on Hope reminding us of the promises we celebrate during this season. As I write this, I can honestly say that one thing I wasn’t hoping for was the white stuff falling from the sky—but I suppose that comes with the season as well! It was a joy to see so many stay after our Worship service for the meal and a meaningful time of fellowship. A special thank-you to Judy Fausnaugh for assisting with the Advent wreath reading and candle lighting. We also have a volunteer for this coming week. If you would like to help with one of the remaining Advent services, please let me know.

I encourage you to make plans now to join us this Sunday as we continue our Advent journey with the theme of Peace . Following the service, we will hold a congregational meeting to discuss and vote on the proposed b Immediately afterward, the Church Board will meet for our regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Since I mentioned the beautiful snowfall earlier, this is also a good time to remind everyone of our winter weather policy. If Fairfield County is under a Level 2 or Level 3 Snow Emergency on a Sunday morning, our worship service will be automatically canceled. If the emergency level is Level 1 or lower , we ask that each person use their best judgment. Your safety is always our priority, and we never want anyone to take unnecessary risks coming to or from worship.

We are also continuing plans for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service , which will take place at 6:00 PM on December 24 . Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone had an opportunity to participate—by reading Scripture, singing a song, or lighting a candle? Now is a great time to invite friends, family, and neighbors. Plant the seed early and continue the conversation over the coming weeks. Sometimes it takes more than one invitation. You might even let them know you have a part in the service and would appreciate their support! Please let me know if you feel led to help with this special evening. And as a reminder, word has it that our worship leader, Greg Smith , is writing a new song especially for this service.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

As we step into this sacred season of Advent, my heart is filled with both anticipation and gratitude. Advent is a yearly reminder that we are a people who wait—not with uncertainty, but with hope. We wait for the light that shines in the darkness. We wait for the promise of Emmanuel, “God with us.” And we wait with the confidence that the same God who came as a child in Bethlehem continues to come close to us today.

In the coming weeks we will gather around the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love . These are more than candles on an Advent wreath; they are gifts Christ longs to cultivate within us. My prayer is that this season will slow our pace, soften our hearts, and draw our eyes once again to the wonder of Jesus—our Savior, our Redeemer, and our coming King.

I also want to invite each of you to come this Sunday as we welcome Kameron Waits to be our musical guest for this 5th Sunday concert series. He will be bringing a mixture of Southern and Country Gospel music with a powerful message. We will also take a deep dive into the Advent theme of Hope! Please make plans to join us in person and stay to enjoy a time of fellowship and a meal after the service.

We are also making plans for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service which will be at 6 PM on Dec 24! We would love for everyone to come and be a part of it from reading Scripture, to singing a song. Please let me know if you would be bold enough to step up and help with this great service. I even hear that our own Worship Leader, Greg Smith, is writing a song for this service.

So, as we move from Thanksgiving into Advent, as we prepare our homes, may we also prepare our hearts. As we give gifts, may we remember the greatest gift of all. And as we look toward Christmas morning, may we do so with a renewed sense of awe at the God who stepped into our world so that we might know Him. Let’s enter Advent together with expectation—because Christ is near, His Kingdom is moving, and His light still shines.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

From the Pastor's Desk

As we draw near to Thanksgiving, my heart is especially full. I want to take a moment to share just how thankful I am for Wildermuth Memorial Church. Lisa and I have been so graciously welcomed into this church family, and we count it a true honor and privilege to serve alongside you in the work of God’s Kingdom. Thank you for the love, support, and partnership you show us every day.

I’m also excited to share a brief praise report: our email distribution list has now grown to 28 subscribers, and it continues to increase! This may seem like a small thing, but it represents growing connection, communication, and engagement across our church family. Let’s keep that momentum going. I encourage each of us to continue shining God’s light to the people around us and inviting them to join us in worship. Yes, sometimes we’ll get “no’s,” and often we’ll hear “maybe later,” but our part is simply to plant the seed and trust God with the harvest.

We are now well into our sermon series, “Timeless Truths for Today,” as we take a closer look at the Ten Commandments. This Sunday we will reach the halfway point as we study the Fifth Commandment. After that, we’ll pause our series for a meaningful shift into the Advent season as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Looking ahead, my plan is to return to the “Timeless Truths” series at the start of 2026 with a brief review of the first five commandments before finishing out the final five together. Following that, we will be launching a Membership Class early next year—something I am in the early stages of developing. This will be a wonderful refresher for long-time members and an excellent introduction to the rich heritage of Wildermuth for those who are newer to our church family.

I am grateful for each one of you, and I’m excited for what God has in store for us in the months ahead. May we continue to walk faithfully, lovingly, and expectantly as God leads us forward.

From the Pastor's Desk

As we transition from honoring our veterans this past week, I certainly want to thank Chuck McConkey for sharing his faith journey and testimony with us. We can now move into the Thanksgiving season. I want to start by thanking each of you for your donations of items and money as we strive to reach out to our neighbors in Carroll as we as a church sponsored a local family for Christmas. We were able to bless this family with many items for this child’s Christmas as you can see in this picture…

I pray we rise to the challenge next year and perhaps even step out in faith and sponsor multiple children.

Not only are we helping our local neighbors, but we are also well on our way towards collecting numerous eyeglasses to donate to RISE Missions to help our friends in the Dominican Republic. Reminder that any of those donations are needed by this coming Sunday, give them to Judy Fosnaugh, so she can pass them on to Josh Morrison before he heads back to the mission field.

In other news, in an attempt to keep my promise to introduce my family more to you as you get to know us, I would like to tell you that another “hat” I wear is that of an insurance agent. In that role, I can help people not only with their Car and Home insurance but also Health and Life insurance policies, including Medicare plans. My wife, Lisa, is a nurse at Forest Rose School but also is on the National Board of Parrish Nurses. So, if you would like any assistance in knowing what programs are out there to help with your medical needs, she would be happy to assist you.

We will need a minimum of 5 adult males and 5 adult women to commit to being the leadership teams in order to get these troops chartered.

As we begin the month of November, we pause to honor and thank all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, both living and deceased, for their patriotism, service, and sacrifice. Veterans day is Tuesday, Nov 11th. As we prepare for that day, we will have a special service this Sunday as we welcome guest speaker Chuck McConkey! Chuck brings a powerful and inspiring message shaped by a lifetime of service. A former Vietnam helicopter pilot, Chuck later served as a missionary pilot, providing aviation support to ministries around the world. He has also served as a PTSD counselor, walking with veterans and others through the journey of healing and restoration. In addition, he is an FAA Safety Team Representative, promoting aviation safety and mentoring pilots. Chuck’s story is one of faith, courage, and God’s grace through adversity. His testimony challenges, encourages, and strengthens the faith of all who hear it. Please invite a friend and join us for a meaningful morning of worship, inspiration, and hope!

If you are not coming out on Sunday evenings, you are missing our small group which continues to dive into Dr. Dino’s creation science video series. This study sparks great

discussion about faith, the Bible, science, and how we engage a culture that asks big questions. If you've never attended—this is a perfect week to jump in! The conversations are lively, the learning is rich, and the fellowship is encouraging.

We have one more week to bring in prescription as well as reading glasses for RISE Missions. Please give donations to Judy Faosnaugh. We need donations by Nov 16.

This Sunday is the deadline for collecting money or new items for a child we are sponsoring for Christmas. As a reminder, we are sponsoring a female, age 10. Her favorite color is Purple, loves Arts & Crafts, Hair Ties, Nail Polish & Remover, and stickers. She is a size 14/16 in girls and we would like to have 1 pair of pants, 4 shirts, and 5 total of the other things mentioned. We will be giving these unwrapped to the parents so they can wrap them and give them on Christmas. Again, we need donations by Sunday Nov 9th!

I can’t believe that it is that time of year again! This weekend brings one of those small but welcome seasonal shifts—Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, which means we all get to “fall back” one hour. While gaining an extra hour of rest is always appreciated, it also serves as a good reminder: Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is slow down, breathe, and receive God’s gift of rest. As we turn the clocks back, I invite you to also take a step back spiritually—to reflect on where God is moving in your life, in your family, and in our church. This Sunday we will continue in our sermon series called Family Values—a biblical look at what it means to build a Christ-centered home in a world full of competing influences. We are exploring a practical, grace-filled way to strengthen our families, whether your “family” is a household of one or many. We are looking at questions like: What does a godly family look like today? How do we pass our faith to the next generation? How can families heal, grow, and thrive in Christ? Bring someone with you—this series is for parents, grandparents, blended families, empty-nesters, singles, and anyone who wants to leave a legacy of faith.

Our small group continues this week as we dive into Dr. Dino’s creation science video series. This study sparks great discussion about faith, the Bible, science, and how we engage a culture that asks big questions. If you've never attended—this is a perfect week to jump in! The conversations are lively, the learning is rich, and the fellowship is encouraging.

Welcome to the Wildermouth Church Newsletter!

From the Pastor's Desk

Recently we had Josh Morrison from RISE Missions come and share with us all about the great work they are doing in the Dominican. I still am trying to wrap my head around the fact that they can treat and provide prescription medications to about 150 people per day for around $500 to $550 a day. That is just mind-boggling. The best part of this is that people are getting the Gospel Message during this time as well.

I know many of you have been impacted by the testimonies that Josh shared just as I am. One thing I have since learned that he did not have time to share while he was with us is that he now has two optometrists who will be giving eye tests and therefore will be needing reading glasses as well as prescription glasses. If you are like me, then you probably have some old glasses lying around in a drawer or on a shelf that you no longer use. Our own Judy Fosnaugh has volunteered to spearhead a collection at Wildermuth of these glasses! Thanks Judy. If you or someone you know has old reading or prescription glasses that you would like to get to Judy by November 15th, she will ensure that Josh has them before his return to the Dominican.

There are two other ways that Wildermuth strives to help RISE Missions. Did you know that the little tin cup next to our oƯering plate each month is a Missions Collections? All money donated in this cup is in turn distributed to Missions and RISE Missions is one of those recipients. I would like to challenge each of us to consider partnering with Josh and pledging (as well as carrying thru with) donating $5 each week to the missions cup. While I don’t drink Starbucks coƯee, it is hard to find coƯee anyplace for under $3 a cup. Just think how much Kingdom work can be done for less than the cost of two cups of coƯee a week!

Another easy way that we can ensure some funds to go to Missions is for anyone that shops at Kroger’s, please consider linking your rewards card to Wildermuth Memorial Church, ID # RJ186. This is a great way to have the local dollars you spend go to support our church through Community Rewards. All the money we receive through this program also goes to Missions.

I know I have been having a portion of this section of the Newsletter be about letting you know a little more about me and my family but I wanted to take time this week to highlight the work that Wildermuth Memorial Church is doing in Missions. Plus, you also have gotten to know a little more about me and my passion for outreach and Missions. Church is more than just what happens inside our four walls…It is all about building God’s Kingdom!

This Sunday we will begin a new sermon series where we will rediscover timeless truths for today's families. Thousands of years ago, God gave us a blueprint for living-a set of ten foundational values known as the Ten Commandments. These principles weren't just for ancient times; they were designed to guide every person, every marriage, and every family, regardless of size or structure. They've stood the test of time because they speak to the heart of what it means to live with integrity, purpose, and love. Today, it feels like society has drifted into a permissive culture where "anything goes," and now we're seeing the consequences. Everyone seems to agree that we need to return to "family values," but few are willing to define what those values actually are. Over the coming weeks, we'll be exploring how the Ten Commandments apply to our lives today-not as outdated rules, but as life-giving truths that can restore families, heal relationships, and strengthen our communities. Let's rediscover these timeless values together and see the difference they can make in our homes and hearts.

Now, as I promised, I would like to continue to share a little bit about myself and my family. Some of you may be wondering why I conduct a church service at an airport (GPS Ministries, as discussed later in this newsletter). Well, I was fortunate enough that I had the opportunity to follow a boyhood dream of mine and learned to fly as a teenager. I actually got my Driver's License, Motorcycle Endorsement, and soloed in an airplane when I was 16 (many, many years ago now). I then earned my pilots license when I was 17. Truth be told I wanted them all when I was 16 but Regulations state you cannot earn your pilots license until age 17 so I had to be patient. I then had several years, 25 to be exact, that I did not do any flying because I had gotten married, had 2 beautiful daughters, and in raising them, there was never enough money, time, or energy to do my hobby. However, we had always discussed getting back into it someday when we became empty nesters. God provided an opportunity to become part owner of a Cessna 182 the same time our youngest daughter was graduating from college. I guess that patience that God tried to instill in me when I was 16 paid off, and then in my later years, I was given the opportunity to get back into flying. In those 25 years that I did not fly, a new(ish) trend started called the $100 Hamburg. This is where you fly to another airport, get a meal, and fly back. I figured if pilots wanted to do that, then they may want to fly somewhere for a church service and then fly back. We are now 6 years into this adventure. To be continued...

Now, as I promised in last week’s newsletter, I would like to share a little bit about myself and my family. Keep in mind that I would love to get with each of you and learn your story. If you have any knowledge of the story of Wildermuth Memorial Church and the rich history of this House of Worship, please share that with me too.

Ministerially speaking, I was Ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 2022. I was actually Ordained on my birthday, talk about a great birthday present! I have been asked, why the Church of the Nazarene? Well, I grew up attending various churches and denominations as a child. My Dad, who now also attends Wildermuth, was a Sunday Morning Gospel Disc Jockey at WLGN in Logan. I could go with him one Sunday a month and hear somewhere between 9 – 12 sermons along with some great music, or I went to church with my mother and sister the other weeks. We attended various churches, typically supporting whichever one was sponsoring the Scout Troop I belonged to. I would often say that I was a “Heinz 57” Christian, not adhering to any one denomination but rather a byproduct of all the great things from each of them. It wasn’t until around 2012, when we started attending a Nazarene Church that I actually understood that God had been shaping me and molding me, and was in fact calling me to be a pastor. I would have many people over my life tell me that I would be a good pastor but I would shrug it oƯ and tell them that they were hearing God wrong. Finally, in 2012, I realized that it was me that wasn’t listening to God and that the Wesleyan-Armenian perspective which the Nazarene Doctrine is based on, was in fact the type of foundation that God had instilled in me through all the various churches and denominations I grew up in. That pretty much brings us up to today. In conjunction with Wildermuth’s onsite services, I minister at the airport here in Lancaster and at an outreach in Somerset which are listed later in these newsletters under G.P.S. Ministries. Michael is a founding member of One Tru North and has performed with numerous artists. His anointed voice and passion for worship inspire believers to encounter God in a fresh way.

John & Debi Levier from Heath, Ohio, have been singing and ministering in a song for over 16 years. Their love for worship has led them into nurssing homes, hospital rooms, parks, barns, churches, restaurants, county fairs, and even the Christian TV station in Marion, Ohio. Wherever the door opens, they faithfully share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.

John Westling is a gospel singer/songwriter from Greenville, TN, originally from Southeastern Ohio. The proud son of a preacher, John built his foundation of faith early, which continues to shape his heartfelt gospel songwriting. In 2018, he founded Spirit-Born Ministries and has since recorded four albums with his newest project. NEW SONGS OF FAITH set.

This Sunday we will be concluding our series on “The Bible Doesn’t Say that…”! This has been a fun and interesting look at some of the phrases and cliché’s many of us have probably heard or even said because we thought they were found in Scripture, but the truth be told – The Bible Doesn’t Say that! If you missed one or more of these messages, I urge you to go to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/WChurchCarroll) or our Website (www.wildermuthchurch.com) to see all the sermons.

Our next few messages will be centered around Family Values. Did you know that thousands of year ago, God put in place 10 key values that can make a diƯerence in the life of every family. The Ten Commandments have stood the test of time. Join us as we discover how these important values apply to every single person, every married couple, and every family regardless of size or makeup. I encourage you to attend our services in person if you are able, enjoy/review them on Facebook or our website, and help spread the word by sharing with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Now, on another note. I thought it would be nice for me to share a little bit about myself, since Lisa and I are still fairly new here at Wildermuth. I certainly would love to get with each of you and learn your story. I am still learning the story of Wildermuth Memorial Church and the rich history of this House of Worship. So, having said all of that, the next few newsletters will have a little bit about me and my family so you can learn my story.

First of all, I am happily married for 33 years now to my high school sweetheart, Lisa. We dated for several years before getting married. One reason we dated so long is because we were still in high school and wanted to get that and college completed before starting our family. The other reason is that it took several years before I could wear her down so that she would say YES. We have two beautiful daughters who each have found their respective soulmates. Eldest, Kendra is married to Gary Webb, and they are foster parents to a beautiful young boy who we consider to be our grandson. Only time will tell if an adoption is in the future. Kendra and Gary serve in ministry in Belpre Ohio. Our youngest, Kaitlyn is married to Kevin Barman. She is a teacher for special needs in Millersport and he works at Amazon in Etna.

Those of you that have been in the area for a while and attended any Bloom Carroll Football games in prior years probably heard me announcing for the Band. I was the Voice of the Bulldogs for 10 years. I am the current Vice-Chair for the Baltimore, Thurston, Carroll Ministerial Association. I am also a member of Kiwanis. More to come in future editions of the Newsletter.

From the Pastor's Desk

Our Jewish neighbors marked Rosh Hashanah , the beginning of their new year on Sept 23rd. It is a time of repentance, reflection, and renewal—a season of turning toward God with a sincere hear. As Wesleyan-Arminian Christians, we can find deep resonance with this holy, observance.

John Wesley often spoke of God's prevenient grace —the grace that goes before us, awakening our hearts and calling us to repentance. Rosh Hashanah reminds us that God's call to turn back is always fresh and urgent. Like Israel hearing the trumpet (shofar) blast, we too are summoned to awaken from spiritual slumber and to walk more fully in the life of grace. This reminder is certainly timely given the topics which I wrote about last week.

For the Jewish people, Rosh Hashanah also points forward to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when sins are confessed and forgiveness sought. As Christians, we understand atonement to be fully realized in Jesus Christ. In Him, we see that God's grace is not only prevenient—going before us—but also justifying and sanctifying, making us new creations.

Arminian theology emphasizes human response to God's call. We are not passive in the work of renewal. Rosh Hashanah, then, becomes a reminder that the new year is an opportunity to cooperate with grace: to repent, to seek holiness of heart and life, and to love God and neighbor more faithfully.

As we move into the rhythms of autumn, may the spiritual themes of Rosh Hashanah inspire us to embrace new beginnings in Christ. Let us hear the Spirit's trumpet call and respond with willing hearts, trusting that "if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Cor. 5:17).

As our Jewish neighbors may say - Shanah Tovah— may you have a good and holy year in the Lord.

On another note, I want to thank Pastor Jim Miller and his wife, Brenda, for being with us this past Sunday and bringing a wonderful message encouraging us to "Face Our Giants." It is greatly appreciated.

From the Pastor’s Desk

Church family, as I am writing this first newsletter for us, I would be remis if I did not take pause to address some recent and current events which surround us. Our hearts are heavy these days. We grieve the killing of Charlie Kirk, the tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, and we paused last week to remember the anniversary of 9/11. Each of these moments reminds us of the brokenness of our world and the pain which violence leaves behind.

Yet we also remember that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18). Evil does not have the last word. Our hope is in Christ, who conquered death and offers peace beyond understanding.

While I pray that this section can be uplifting, encouraging, and perhaps even include some lightheartedness in the future, I felt compelled to address these events now. Let us honor those we’ve lost by being a people of prayer, lifting up the hurting; a people of love, standing against hate and fear; and a people of hope, pointing to Jesus — the only One who can heal, redeem, and bring lasting peace.
